SESAME STREET STAGE SHOW: THE POWER OF EDUCATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT
Sesame Street Stage Show: The Power of Educational Entertainment
Sesame Street, an educational children’s television show produced and aired by PBS, made its debut on National Educational Television (the precursor to PBS) on November 10, 1969. As of 2009, it holds the record for the most Emmy awards won by any children’s show, with a total of 153 awards. The show employs a blend of puppetry, animation, and live performances to educate children on fundamental skills such as reading, arithmetic, color, letter and number recognition, and even basic life skills. Its innovative and entertaining segments have set a benchmark for other TV shows to follow. On January 21, 2018, the 47th season of Sesame Street was honored with the 29th Annual Producers Guild of America Award for Best Children’s Television Program. On November 14, 2021, Sesame Street announced the introduction of its first Asian character, set to debut on Thanksgiving.
