Hollow Man sculptures are human sculptures presented in hollow, transparent or hollow structures. The core feature is to explore philosophical themes such as existence, nothingness or human nature through the “hollow” form.
The Hollow Man trudged along the beach. He was tired from his journey, but more importantly, he felt sick and afflicted. Hopefully the week spent at the beach would help him recover from his tortured mental health issues.
He clutched the suitcase that held all of his belongings, his fingers clenching as if to crush all of his feelings. His clenched fists clutched at the treasures of his life, pressing them tightly against the handles. He clung to the worn leather case like a drowning man clings to a life raft.
The contents were humble, but contained everything he wanted. Paints, brushes, oils. Cadmium red, emerald green, cobalt blue …… and, of course, his favorite, chrome yellow. It was the color of his soul.
His footprints left deep imprints in the soft sand behind him. He hadn’t eaten in days. The empty hunger in his stomach was nothing compared to what kept him going – the constant desire for art. His poor, confused, yet brilliant mind was still searching for answers.
Then, just ahead of him, he saw some brightly colored fishing boats bobbing in the shimmering waters of the port of Sainte-Marie-des-Ramelles.
Vincent quickened his pace-his steps were almost brisk, the sand bulging in a small cloud beneath him.
The Hollow Man was always looking around for something to fill himself with, and he hardly cared what it was. He lacks that insight that comes with knowing who you are. There is an inner compass that must be cultivated to have insight.
