Hydropneumatic Cylinder and Machines

Hydropneumatic Cylinder

A hydropneumatic cylinder is a type of actuator that combines hydraulic and pneumatic technologies to perform mechanical work. It is widely used in industrial applications where controlled, high-force actuation is required, typically in compact spaces. These cylinders are especially valued for their ability to deliver high forces with relatively small and lightweight designs.

Principle of operation

Pneumatic-hydraulic cylinders integrate two components in one actuator: an air cylinder and an air/oil booster.

The pneumatic cylinder is located in the lower part of the unit and allows quick access to the workpiece.

The air/oil booster is located in the upper part of the unit and allows a higher pressure to be exerted on the workpiece (up to ten times the pressure exerted by a cylinder with the same bore).

Pneumatic cylinders can replace hydraulic cylinders, thus eliminating the need for a special hydraulic power unit.
