Kaolin is a common natural mineral, the main component of which is kaolinite, a white or off-white plate-like aluminum silicate. As a chemically stable clay, kaolin has low shrinkage and expansion rates, making it excellent in a wide range of industrial applications such as ceramics, papermaking, glass fiber, fillers, etc.

According to different processing methods, commercially available kaolin mainly includes washed kaolin, calcined kaolin and surface-modified kaolin.

Washed kaolin

Washed kaolin is purified from natural clay through a series of precision processes involving grinding, pulping, screening, fine grinding, centrifugal separation, chemical treatment, magnetic separation, concentration and drying. These processes ensure that the product meets ideal standards in terms of purity, particle size, brightness and residue level. Washed kaolin is a hydrous clay that retains about 14% of the bound water in the original clay, has good plasticity and dispersibility, and is suitable for coatings, rubber, plastics and other industries.
