Linsheng – Are You Complying With Emergency Power Regulations?
From a legal perspective, not all construction work is equal. In the case of emergency power systems (EPSS), the work of nursing facilities and manufacturing requires special planning.
Natural disasters such as hurricanes, thunderstorms, mudslides, tornadoes and floods can cost manufacturing plants millions of dollars. In addition, there is not enough backup power during a power outage that can jeopardize the health and lives of patients in the care facility. Although power outages may occur for many different reasons, coastal areas should further consider the possibility of hurricanes and the resulting problems.
Nursing facility
Due to the subtle nature of the health care services provided, if power is lost, the care facility needs EPSS with sufficient fuel to power the generator for at least 72 hours. These facilities are also encouraged to provide alternate emergency power (EPS) if the generator fails.
In Virginia, a licensed care facility must have a Level 1 EPSS – a system installed for the equipment that could cause serious injury or personal injury if equipment failure occurs. For example, Level 1 EPSS must provide power for fire detection systems and necessary ventilation systems, fire pumps, life safety lighting, elevators, public safety communication systems, and the like.
Level 2 EPSS is a system that is installed for equipment failure and is not as important to human life. Level 2 EPSS is designed to power components such as heating and cooling systems, wastewater treatment, lighting and industrial processes.
Manufacturing facility
Having EPS is very important for production facilities, because in the event of a power outage, production facilities lose a lot of money. A survey released in 2015 found that 74% of companies worldwide experienced vendor-related disruptions in the past year – such as disruptions caused by weather emergencies. In addition, 14% of the companies lost more than $1.1 million.
Natural disasters, fires and violent incidents in the workplace can create an emergency for the company. Preventive maintenance and testing of generators and backup power systems is key to protecting your bottom line during power outages.
We know the power you need to rely on when the power is exhausted. Let linsheng help you prepare professional industry knowledge to effectively plan, install, maintain and support your EPS plans and power generation needs.
