Working Principle and Application of Ultrasonic Transducer

Ultrasonic level gauge is a non-contact instrument dedicated to continuous measurement of liquid level. It mainly sends out high-frequency ultrasonic pulses through an ultrasonic transducer. When it encounters the surface of the liquid level to be measured, the sound wave is reflected back, and part of the reflected echo is received by the transducer and converted into an electrical signal. The ultrasonic level gauge uses the time difference between sound wave emission and reception and the sound wave propagation speed to calculate the liquid level. Ultrasonic transducers are the core components of ultrasonic level gauges, mainly including piezoelectric transducers, sandwich transducers, cylindrical transducers, inverted horn transducers and other different types. The transducers of our company are mainly piezoelectric transducers. In order to enable users to have a more comprehensive understanding of the ultrasonic transducer, its working principle and main applications are introduced as follows.

1. The working principles of the ultrasonic transducer

The ultrasonic transducer uses the piezoelectric effect of the piezoelectric ceramic with the same resonant frequency to convert electrical energy into mechanical vibration. Ultrasonic wave is usually generated by ultrasonic generator, which is converted into mechanical vibration by high frequency ultrasonic transducer, and then ultrasonic wave can be generated by ultrasonic export device and ultrasonic receiving device. Therefore, as an energy conversion device, the function of the ultrasonic transducer is to convert the input electrical power into mechanical power (ultrasound) and then transmit it out, while it consumes a small part of the power.

The structure of ultrasonic transducer mainly has several major components such as housing, acoustic window (matching layer), piezoelectric ceramic disc transducer, backing, lead-in cable, and receiver. Among them, the piezoelectric ceramic disc transducer has the same role as most transducers, mainly used to transmit and receive ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic receiver is on top of the piezoelectric ceramic disc transducer, which is mainly composed of the lead-out cable, the transducer, the metal ring and the rubber gasket, and receives the Doppler callback generated outside the frequency band of the piezoelectric ceramic disc transducer Signal.

2. The application of ultrasonic transducer

Ultrasonic transducers have a very wide range of applications. According to the application industry, they can be divided into industry, agriculture, transportation, life, medical treatment and military. According to the functions realized, it can be divided into ultrasonic processing, ultrasonic cleaning, ultrasonic detection, detection, monitoring, telemetry, remote control, etc. According to the working environment, it can be divided into liquid, gas, organism, etc. By nature, it can be divided into power ultrasound, detection ultrasound, ultrasound imaging, etc.
