Pre-Stressed Steel
Types of Pre-stressing Steel
The steel undergoes various treatment processes to achieve the desired properties. The following procedures are employed:
Cold Working (Cold Drawing):Cold working involves rolling the bars through a series of dies. This process realigns the crystals within the steel and enhances its strength.
Stress Relieving:Stress relieving is carried out by heating the strand to approximately 350°C and then allowing it to cool slowly. This reduces the plastic deformation of the steel after the onset of yielding.
Strain Tempering for Low Relaxation:Strain tempering for low relaxation is accomplished by heating the strand to around 350°C while it is under tension. This process not only improves the stress-strain behavior of the steel by minimizing plastic deformation after the onset of yielding but also reduces relaxation.
