However, the times are changing, and no industry can stand still. As people’s desire for speed grows stronger, only one turbine may not be able to excite all the cells in our body, so there is a twin-turbo. In the early days of the twin-turbo, people also regarded it as a god-like operation. Then, the mechanical-turbo hybrid boost was invented, resulting in faster throttle response and performance.
To this day, twin-turbo is no longer a luxury, and a single-turbo can be found just grab a shopping cart on the ground – it’s so close to the people.
The above said, maybe everyone is not strange, but if I talk about the three turbines, the four turbines, I am afraid you will feel a bit far away. When it comes to the four turbines, you have to mention Bugatti. The first use of the four-turbine engine was in the anti-day supercar in the 1990s, the Bugatti EB110. The EB110 is the veteran of the Veyron. Naturally, the Veyron is also the same. It is equipped with a four-turbo engine. Shortly after the production of Veyron, BMW also followed their tactics – developing a three-turbo diesel engine.

1. Audi SQ7 – Three Turbo V8
The first thing we have to say is the three-turbocharged V8 engine on the 2017 Audi SQ7. It can be said that this is the top production diesel engine. As a fellow of the Volkswagen, Bentley Tim has shared the same power unit.
As Audi with black technology, the SQ7’s three-turbo engine is not a traditional three-turbo – it contains two ordinary turbines and one electric turbine. This electric turbine is powered by a 48V power system on the vehicle. Its function is to increase the pressure and flow rate of the intake airflow, effectively offsetting the hysteresis of the other two superchargers at low speeds. The entire power system produces a maximum power of 435 horsepower and a peak torque of 900 Nm.
2. Bugatti Chiron – Four Turbo W16
Bugatti is the first brand in the world to dare to use a four-turbo engine on a production car. It must be said that the four-turbo W16 engine lying behind the seat is the swan song of the engine industry. There are indeed some brands that have tried the R&D of the V16 engine, but the brand that uses the W16 engine like Bugatti can never find a second one in the world. Under the conditions of today’s strict emission standards, it is indeed full of personality.
The working principle of the W16 engine, perhaps everyone knows about it, its cylinder structure is actually equivalent to the combination of two VR8 engines at an angle of 90 degrees. From a professional point of view, this is called “two-stage turbo technology”. This technology is not only Bugatti, but other brands with lower grades have tried it, but no one has Bugatti to do it. . The four-turbo W16 engine produces a total of 1,500 horsepower, with a peak torque of 1600 Nm between 2000 and 6000 rpm.
3. BMW 3.0L three turbine straight six
In 2012, the launch of this engine shocked the world, and it is even more amazing that it is actually a diesel engine. The engine can be used on the 5 Series, 7 Series, X5 and X6. The 7 Series using the engine is called 750d, and the X5 and X6 are M50d. The M550d, which used a three-turbo engine in the previous generation 5 series, is equipped with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that matches the xDrive four-wheel drive system.
The output of this three-turbo engine is very linear. At low speeds, there is a small turbine working to ensure sufficient torque to prevent hysteresis. When the speed is gradually increased to the middle, the larger turbine will provide Greater torque – this kind of structure is very reasonable, then the third turbine, naturally, is to serve high speed. Surprisingly, after the second turbine started working, it was enough for you to step on the red line from 2500 rpm. The engine, code-named N57S, delivers 381 horsepower at a speed of 4000-4400 rpm and a peak torque of 740 Nm at 2000-3000 rpm.
4. BMW 3.0L four turbine straight six
BMW is the second brand after Bugatti to dare to make such a bold attempt. Unlike the Black Tech Audi, the four turbines of BMW are traditional turbines, which is similar to Bugatti. In addition, it divides the engine structure into two parts, but Bugatti produces three times as much horsepower as BMW. As an ordinary person, we may have the opportunity to come into contact with the BMW 750d in this life, and Chiron, I am afraid I can’t touch it.
BMW uses an inline six-cylinder structure that produces 400 horsepower for the entire power unit – a figure for a four-turbo engine that is almost insignificant; at 2000-3000 rpm, it can reach 760 N. The peak torque of the meter. The highlight of this engine is actually the internal split, split into two small turbines and two large turbines. The two parts of the whole power system work independently.
